The PolyJet getting head slides back and forth along X-axis, like a printer, depositing a single 16 micron super-thin layer of photopolymer onto the build tray. Immediately after that, UV bulb located alongside the jetting bridge, emits rays that cure and harden each layer. This step eliminates the additional post curing required by other technologies.
The internal jetting tray moves downwards with extreme precision and the jetting heads continue to build, layer by layer, until the model is complete. Sophisticated software tools enable all the heads to work in perfect harmony, to synchronously jet identical amounts of material on the tray. This results into a perfectly regular and smooth surface.
Two different photopolymer materials are used for building: one is for the real model and another gel-like material for the support. The geometry of the support structure is pre-programmed to cope with complicated geometries, such as cavities, overhangs, undercuts, delicate features and thin-wall sections.
When the build is finished, a water jet easily removes the support material, leaving the actual piece in his shapes, precision and smooth surfaces.
